Sunday Sketch Challenge with Trina

It's Trina here with another week and another lovely sketch from Design Girl Kasia. Her sketches are a sure way to keep scrapbooking all month long, no matter what size or format--scrapbooking or pocket pages--you are working in. Share your take on this week's sketch in our gallery and earn a chance to win a $5 gift certificate from Citrus Twist Kits.

These days, I'm pretty much working in 8.5 x 11 and 6 x 8 format. These sizes fit my lifestyle so much nicer and I can quickly complete a layout in either of these trim sizes.

Here is Kasia's sketch:

I converted the 12 x 12 sketch to the 8.5 x 11 inch format by cutting down on the background between the vertical borders on the left and right sides. I used 2 photos instead of 3 to better fit the 8.5 inch width of my page.

I started the layout by splattering Tinsel Color Shine randomly on white card stock, then used the fun trapezoid shapes from one of the new Amy Tangerine Stitched pattern papers to create the vertical borders on each side.

Here is a close-up:

The new kraft thickers from December's add-on inspired me to pull out my Heidi Swapp Color Shines in Tinsel and Black. I decided to mimic the popular hombre look by first painting the Tinsel Color Shine on with a brush. While the Tinsel was still wet, I painted over the lower half of each letter with the Black Color Shine, blending the Tinsel into the Black. Here is a close-up up of the end result:

I fussy-cut the butterflies out of one of the sheets of pattern paper in this kit:

Here is one last sneak:

Now it's your turn to take on this week's sketch!  We love to see what you do with our kits and sketches so please make sure to upload your projects to the Citrus Twist Gallery. And remember, by uploading your take on today's sketch to the gallery by 12/7, you will be entered to win a $5 Coupon to use on anything in the CTK Store

Pocket Life with April

Happy Black Friday, CTKers!  For everyone in the US, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

April here to share my Pocket Life Week 37 using the November PL and PL Embellishment Kits.  This was one of the spreads that I did as part of my catch up effort.  I had the spread planned and my photos in the page protector, so all I did was fill it with the fun details.  I definitely have been keeping things more simple since I am playing catch up.

NON-KIT ITEMS: Thickers, blue ink, bamboo skewer

Once I decided on the background paper and started working on my page, I thought that a big arrow would be the perfect embellishment to go with the target!

Here are the supplies used for the making of the arrow:
I love the vellum bags in the kits and using one to create the "feathers" of the arrow gives it a light airy texture. Here is my quick video tutorial:

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sunday sketch with Lucia

Hello everyone - and happy sunday!
Here is a new sketch, as usual :)

10606279_10202589795337552_5995955912802315075_n

I really liked (and enjoyed cutting out) the hexagon shapes! I've used the Big Shot to cut out my three photos and a patterned paper (from November 2014 Main Kit).

I played a bit with the composition. Finally I decided not to add that paper behind the hexagons and went for my favourite clean style :)

A little bit of machine stitching ...

And the page is ready!

Pocket Life With Sam

Hello there, Its Sam Today to share my Pocket Life pages using November PL Kit. I love the red and green patterned papers in the kit, thus I decided to make a 12x12 PL page with 1/2 red and 1/2 green. I even try to look for photos that have coordinating colour scheme.

November 1-1

I love the die cut vellum that are included in the kit and use it as the title card for this month spread.

November 1-2

November 1-3
See? I really tried my best to look for photos with red to match the red patterned paper.

November 1-4

And here's the sketches for this week Pocket Life page. One of the sketches is by cutting your photos into half and fit them into two 3' x 4'  pockets.

Sketch 1

Sketch 4

After completing the red-green combo Pocket Life page, I thought of doing something more monotonous. So I grab 6 more pieces of black& white, grey papers from the kit and completed another 12x12 pocket life page. I keep the photo to be bright and colour to add good contrast to this monochromatic page.

November 2-1

It is so fun to scrap pocket life pages according to fixed colour themed and it really push me to think out of the box. I hope  you have fun scrapbooking and doing pocket life pages with this month kit too! Thanks for dropping by!

XoXo,
Sam

Embellishing a non-traditional layout with Ashley!

Hey y'all! Ashley here sharing a quick and simple non-traditional layout where I took a different approach to embellishing a layout! I started the layout by halving the background (using two different patterned papers). Then, I placed the photo on the left and the title on the right. When I typically embellish a layout, I layer a lot and use the photo as a middle piece while placing elements all around it. This time, I decided to make the left side of the layout focus on the photo, and the right side focus on the title and embellishing! Check out my process video that where I explain how this process went! Have a wonderful Thursday!

Tuesday tutorial by Christin

Christin here to show you a little tutorial on how I mix watercolor effects with stencils, stamps and this months lovely rubons from the November main kit and embellishment kit.

I am a little camera shy so you will not here my voice, but I hope you will be able to follow what I do anyway.

As the little text in the start of the video says, I started to prep the ordinary white cardstock with clear gesso. You might wonder why I use clear gesso and not white gesso and I can think of at least 2 reasons. One is that white gesso come out as yellow on the white cardstock and that the colors mixes better with the clear gesso than the white.   The clear gesso is not smooth like white gesso.

Here you can see the finished layout and some closeups
